Hi folks,

I've got some cash to blow but for the life of me can't decide between swapping my 50/1.8 for a 1.4 and buying an 85/1.8 - or - keeping the 50/1.8 and blowing the load on an 85/1.4?

I'm tempted to swap to the 1.4/50 as i know i use it a lot, however, I'm concerned that the 85/1.8 isn't massively quicker than my 80-200/2.8. I use the 50 as a walkaround so value it quite a bit.

Anybody owned a few of these and offer an oppinion?

Cheers,
Rich

I would wait for reviews and real world opinions of the 85/1.4 before spending any cash...it may be rubbish! Does sound good though!

The 85/1.4 has loads of reviews, it's ancient...?

We're talking Nikon here...

Once you got the 85 1.4, I'm sure you will NEVER touch the 50 1.8 again :D

So, sell it and get the 85 1.4 :D

Those Nikon folks have had a 85mm f/1.4 for ages, it's only us Canonites that are waiting for Sigma's offering!

Ah, but you do have the wonderful 85mm F1.2, don't you? A nice choice if you're partial to the odd lottery win.... :D

Me? I'd buy the 85mm F1.8 and the Sigma 50mm F1.4 which blows the Nikon offering out of the water...

Don't I look stoopid!

I have the AFS 50mm f1.4 and it is clearly better than the f1.8 BUT I probably wouldn't upgrade again as the f1.8 is so good there is not THAT much difference. If I were you I would get the 85mm :D

I'd heard this too and a AFS 85mm f1.4 G would be nice :)

that rumours been knocking around years though. It'll happen on day though, but you could get old waiting and when it does it'll cost alot of £.

I'd go for the 85 1.4 and stick with the 50 1.8, just because its a simply magical lens

The 85mm 1.4 is supposed to be a great lens. The 1.8 is hardly shabby though!

Same with the 50mm's. I have the 1.4AFS having had the 1.8. I think its better, but it may just be my technique thats improved! Again, not sure that the 1.4 is two and a half times better as the price suggests.

I would probably get the 50mm 1.4 and the 85mm 1.8
