Yes
If using an electronic 1990's SLR, in my case EOS 1000 and 3000, do they automatically compensate when a Y2 filter is used on the lens?

I've read the manual for the 3000 but it doesn't mention filters. I'm used to compensating the ISO on the light meter when using a Y2 on a manual camera.

the meters should compensate for any filtrations regardless of camera which has internal metering calibrated to 18% grey....

For a yellow filter I think the camera will compensate by around a stop or so.

If it is TTL meter, it will compensate, how will depend on the wavelength sensitivity of the sensor cell and the colour of the filter. Selenium is most sensitive to yellow/green.
