A big thumbs up for Loxley

Hi all,

I usually use PhotoBox for prints, but I needed some from portrait sessions at the best possible quality so I thought I'd try Loxley.

I installed the ROES software on Saturday & after a short time getting used to it I uploaded the files & they arrived today (Tuesday - couldn't have been quicker given the timings involved).

I ordered a mixture of lustre finished 12x8 & 10x8 prints and they are all stunning! Lovely colours, crystal clear - my client will be delighted I'm sure.

I will still use Photobox - I did have some 12x8's done for comparison at the same time (although different shots so not a perfect comparison). The photobox ones were very good also, but not quite up to the same standard as Loxely.

Loxely are well-priced for enlargements, but expensive for processing smaller prints relative to Photobox. So I'll use Loxley for enlargements from now on, but the run of 400 or so family snaps we do every year will go to Photobox.

Hope this info is useful,

Phil

Yeah, Loxley really are a step up from Photobox (I have had a few prints printed out by both to test them). As for price you have also go it spot on, anything large than 12x8 is cheaper at Loxley (they also do a large range of odd sizes too), but under that they tend to be expensive.

The only issue I have with Loxley is their postage price, as it is a fixed amount it can work out well if you do a big order, but just one or two prints (especially around 12x8) it ends up being a substantial part of the cost.

I thought your last 10 words said it alol - photobox for snaps - Loxley for pro work.

Yeah, but I didn't wish to demean Photobox with that comment!

My 'snaps' are taken with high quality gear, and whilst they are often family/holiday shots I would be very disappointed if they were poor quality. I have a lot of 5x7's from Photobox that look great. I think the paper may be slightly lighter than other prints, but this is a non-issue once they are in an album - they look great!

I said it because I've been very disapointed with photobox - flat lack lustre prints - and Loxley have produced superb results so far - well worth the smallish difference in price.

Is there anywhere you'd recommend above Photobox for large orders of smaller prints? (5x7's say?)

why not Loxley? Just make sure you add a suitable margin to the prices. You can buy 7 x 5 @ 58p - 78p you should be selling at £7 - £8 what's wrong with that?

For big batch jobs of 6x4s or 7x5s I usually use DSCL as Loxley really do add up if I'm doing a big run of proof prints. Small runs and enlargements I always use Loxley for the quality.

Once a year we print off family shots from the year for our own albums. I'd have no problem with the prices for shots I intended to sell on.

Are DSCL superior to photobox then?
