Im looking at adding a blog to my website.

This will mean new data often being uploaded onto it, so it will be better for google spiders finding me?!

Any of you guys with blogs already on your website, what did you use to make it, is it just a page on your website you made, or is it from a seperate website imported in/linked to your website?

Any help would be great
Thanks
Gary

NEW QUESTION

OK so I have made this free blog on Eblogger.

gdphotographer.blogspot.com

Now my question is:

If I make a blog button on my website that links straight to this blog page.

Every time I update the blog will it show as an update to my website.

Because the main reason I am making this blog is to get new stuff on my website at least once every week or so... but if google spiders won't find it then there is no point using it?

Thanks again

Wordpress is the way to go, pal.

I used blogger for a while; but since being introduced to Wordpress, I've never looked back.

The problem I have got is I don't have access to the root computer (my dads computer) and the main reason of me making this blog was so that I can regularly update it from my computer. Is there any way of doing this using wordpress?

you upload the files to your website and install wordpress there. Its a self contained blogging system and easily tweaked. Once up, you can edit on any computer you have access to, or even your phone!

Thanks andrew,
When my Dad has time I will get him to upload the files to my website.
I have made the blog to be linked to once wordpress is installed on my computer.

gdphotographer.wordpress.com/

This won't add any crap to my website will it, and google will count this as updates to my website?

Thanks again
Gary

you've started a blog on wordpresses own server.

Once its installed on your server, the data will be in sync with your website and not reliant on any third party websites.

Could be accessed by blog.gdphotographer.co.uk or gdphotographer.co.uk/blog/ depending on how you set it up.

Ok, so I will still be able to use the blog I have already started though.

Ive used Blogger for about three years now - as a basic blog its fine, if you want anything more, you may need to code HTML, not fun (unless you like that sort of thing).

I was tempted the other day to switch to Wordpress as I hear good things about it and templates you can access. For me the problem with Blogger is it hasnt really moved forward and you do need html knowledge to make it half decent.
I just updated my layout (yesterday, in fact) - feel free to check it out HERE

I may still switch over to wordpress, good luck with this ;)

You need to download the Wordpress software from www.wordpress.org as the wordpress.com site is for blogs hosted by them. The .org site is for the self hosted stuff which is what you want.

Another thumbs up for WP from me, I've been using it for just over a year and absolutely love it. As has been said, once it's installed you have full access to it from any computer with an internet connection.

hi, im a web designer and run my own servers etc so hopefully i can help with some advice.
i assume you are on a shared hosting package? basicsally that you pay a company say £5 a month or so and you have your website hosted?

do you have access to your hosting package?
and if you do, login and check if it is cpanel, if it is cpanel then you may also have a thing called fantastico which is an auto installer for things like wordpress, zencart and other programs.

use this to install your blog to the domain www.yoursite.com/blog

search engines should pick it up pretty much straight away, its a good trick for getting sites indexed to google fast by adding a blog due to the rss etc, google seems to index sites straight away.

by putting it on yoursite/blog you can add a link on your main site to this blog.... then in your blogs navigation add a link back to your main site so potential clients casn navigate easily.

if you get stuck let me know

Hello Mate,
We host the website, and run the server from home. My dad's doing it all.
He is having trouble getting the blog onto my website as its interupting the home page of my website, and its finding the home page of the blog instead. Or visa versa

It probably needs to be put in a subfolder.
