Yes, that's pretty much it.

For the same framing the x2 crop works for focal length and DoF so if you fit a 50mm f1.4 to a MFT you get a 100mm FoV and if you then increase your camera to subject distance to get back to a FF 50mm FoV your DoF increases - because you've increased the camera to subject distance.

If shallow DoF is your aim just take the shot without backing up (and live with the different, tighter framing) and you're back in shallow DoF.

Cheers Alan. You and others have supplied some great knowledge on this thread. I'm swaying towards a GF1 or GF2 at the moment. I thought about a G1 but they're a little too DSLR shaped for me and I fancy something different.
 
That's a fair comment.

I had a GF1 but I decided that I couldn't live with just the back screen so I moved to a G1 for the EVF plus the articulated screen is nice. You get the same image quality as it's the same chip in lots of these older MFT cameras.
