I'm guessing these are scans from film shots.

First one is just too much flower in the frame. It needs more space like you have in the second one. As it is I find myself looking at the leaf and bright background bits as the flower head is all the same with no focal interest.

Second one is a much better composition. Only thing letting it down is that the focus is not on the face of the apple but on a leaf behind it.

Second I like much better. agree with Robert P about the focus point, but I like the composition
