Hi, I haven't bought a new lens in ages, until today that is. Today I bought the Sigma 50mm f/1.4. For me it was a choice between this and the Canon 50mm 1.4 which I have heard VERY good things about and which is cheaper too. I was swayed towards the Sigma as I heard that it is much better built than the Canon. Anyway, I thought I would post my first couple of keepers with it.
My reasons for buying this lens were pretty simple. I already have a 17-55 2.8 IS which I feel is sharper and more versatile than the 50mm 1.4. However, I was after creamy bokeh to separate my subject from the busy background I tend to shoot in - the playground at my local park! In this regard I feel the purchase was worthwhile and I am happy with the result.
One note - I had to dial in +10 micro adjustment on my 50d. This was after pretty quick and dirty testing - I will go back and refine the setting. FYI I had to dial in +8 on my 17-55 2.8 lens too. I have a separate thread to discuss that going.
