I'm very happy with my D90 but wondered what attributes the more expensive Nikons had to offer over it. So what is your "BEST" Nikon and where does it excel.
 
Better waterproofing,more easily accessible functions, magnesium chassis v the polycarbonate one of your D90, more AF points, more customisable options, a pc port, more frames per second, etc, etc....

:eek: EEK I struggle with the ones I have:lol: So what one do you think is "Best"? The most expensive :)??

"Best" for one, isn't "Best" for another. Horses for courses. If you wanted to say flagship then probably the D3S or D3X
 
Faster auto focus, better at maintaining focus on moving subjects.

Heavier and more durable, less chance of breaking if you use it to hammer a nail in :D

For me personally ... none of those 'Mode' buttons.

My favourite is the D700, lighter than the D3 / D3s, and I have no need of a vertical grip, although if I was shooting a lot of portrait orientation stuff it would be handy.
 
D7000 - every feature under the sun, yet still small and light enough to take with you everywhere.
 
Given that the lens is a big factor I'm still surprised no one has mentioned IQ yet.

Because it's surprisingly hard to measure.

I can get some pretty nice images out of my D5000 but it doesn't stop me preferring my D3S for most tasks.

I've only tried the D3X once and in terrible conditions for it and I could see the attraction but decided it wasn't for me.

D3S - bullet proof body (yes, I've smacked it into a wall several times), everlasting battery, controls that are where they should be, an AF system that's better than I am (they seem to have almost perfected it now) and quite a nice turn of speed when I need it. Oh and video too for a laugh. And the files really are jolly nice. They added some pixie dust over and above the D3 so I bet it laughs at the D700. I just checked and it's got 25K on the clock so it's barely worn in. D3 is running somewhere near 150K.

D5000 - tiny, light, articulating screen that's surprisingly useful and has just about every feature you could want for very reasonable money. Just wish it had screw drive to focus my old lenses.
 
The best one is the best body you can buy whilst also leaving you enough money to buy some good glass. Pointless blowing your budget on say a D300s and not having the cash to buy the glass to do it justice. That's why I bought a D7000 and not a D700.
