Camera I'm having problems with is the 1D mkiv.
I sat with this body for hours today trying to find out how to cure my issue but have eventually given up.
It's a tough on to explain so here's an example.

If a focus on a tree stump 7 meters away it will grab initial focus straight away, if I hold focus & pan to another tree stump 9 meters away it will re focus fine but if I pan to a tree stump 20 meters away it will not acquire focus it just does nothing , the cameras focus indicator in the viewfinder will just continually blinks. If I take my finger off the shutter release then press it again it will focus right away. I obviously need the tracking to work properly as this really limits what I can do.

Has anyone else had any similar problems with the 1D mkiv.

I've been through the custom functions so many times now its not funny.

What lens where you using ? and does it show the same problem with a different lens ?

Mainly 600mm f4 but its the same with other lenses I own.
Just got the new 300mm f2.8 mkii & it's the same with that also.
I've sent an e mail to cpn just waiting on a reply.

You haven't got CFn III-5 set to '1' by any chance?

With this setting it will limit the amount of focus movement from one subject to another so that you don't latch onto something at infinity if you briefly lose your subject.

Setting to '0' will enable a full focus search whenever the current plane of focus returns no sharp detail.

Had to look but I do have it set to 0. Focus search on.

You've not moved the focus limit switch on your lens by accident Paul  just checking as sometimes it can be silly things like this.

Has it just started happening? Have you tried a full reset ? If you haven't done this yet, copy your settings to a CF card first.

No mate. I use it all the time at different settings.

Only happens with the 1D mkiv. My other bodies work fine.
