a few newbie questions

HDR stands for high dynamic range there is a tutorial here

the benefits of shooting raw include being able to adjust more in post processing (lightroom / photoshop) and as jpegs are files that loss data every time you save them you keep the original with out the compression problems.

If you search for either topic you will find lots of info on both here :)

no problem - there just not topics i can can write about with ease so figured a search would give you better information :)

Do you know how to change shooting to RAW with my 400d?

Look under the menu for Quality. I think it's in there. Bear in mind though tht you can only shoot RAW if you use P, AV, TV or Manual modes. If you use the other auto modes your pictures will be JPG

Ok thanks, yer I only use manual. Does RAW have bigger file sizes then? Would you recomend to always shot RAW from now on?

it does have larger file sizes but they are so much more forgiving if there are any exposure misunderstandings or things like that due to the post-processing options with them.

depends shoot RAW if it's important, but if you have a limited amount of storage shoot jpeg.
A 2gb card gives me 500 jpeg or 120 RAW, often when I plan on shooting RAW I take my lappy and upload the pics to a card reader on the fly.

Ok thats, so quite a big size differnace then. Still I guess most shoot in RAW, so I will probably do that from now now. Just need to figure out how to change to RAW instead of jpeg
