A few specific polarising filter questions :)

Hi folks, been doing some research on polarising filters and as I mainly do car photography I feel one would be a good addition to my kit bag. Plus I can also use it on my upcoming honeymoon in Mauritius!

So just wanted to ask a couple of questions...

- Does it fit over the UV filter or do you use one or the other?

- Once purchased would you use it all the time (its going on my 50mm fixed lens) or just for certain shots?

- anything to do/consider when using one?

- I am looking at getting the Hoya 49mm circular filter. good choice?

- Any other tips/advice on them?

No, throw the UV away, its pointless. Definately dont stack a polariser on top!

Certain shots only.You will loose about 1 1/2 stops of light, so only use it when its needed

A polariser works best when 90 degres to the sun, remember to look through the viewfinder when twisting it to get the desired effect. also make sure your lens doesnt have a rotating front element. If it does, focus, then twist the polariser

My Canon 50mm lens uses a 52mm filter thread so just be wary you buy for the filter thread size.
