My last attempt wasnt successful so here goes attempt two.

Have you tried it with a darker or even a black background?

The black background works much better. Not sure why to be honest, but certainly when I look at it the contrast of the red and green against the black all slots together nicely.
 
when you mask out the flower to get a darker background, try to 'contract' the mask by a pixel or too, this should help remove the 'halo' effect, or the white line around the outside edge of the object :)
it'll help it look less pasted on :)

from the 3, the original is the best IMO :)
ETA, although maybe a touch of saturation to increase the colour depth?

I was meaning to have a black/darker background behind the flower & not to darken the background... Apologies for not explaining myself more in my earlier post..

Good tip, might want to feather the selection slightly too.
