Looking at upgrading my D40 to a d90 and was planning on buying a 50mm 1.8 at the same time.

I found out today that someone I know is selling their 1 month old (less than 1000 clicks) D90 with a 50mm 1.4 for £675. Both were bought in the UK (bestpricedbrands.co.uk) so has warranty.

reason for selling is to upgrade to a d700.

The best new prices I can find online are £599 for the d90 and £190 for the fifty so looks like i'd be saving £115.

Just wanted to check if:
1) anyone knows of cheaper new prices for either item
2) the f1.4 is worth paying a bit more for compared to the f1.8? (as I could also buy the camera for £525 and then get a new f1.8 for £80 which = £605, so am paying an additional £70 for the f1.4)

Thanks in advance

I'd steer clear of anyone calling themselves "bestpricedbrands.co.uk", it screams Grey Import.

Its quite a good price though.

I don't think its worth paying extra for the 1.4 though... he's asking £150 for that and its not worth it.

is there an easy way to tell if it is a grey import?

Yeah, the warranty paperwork will either say Nikon UK or Nikon B.V

If it doesn't it, its Grey.

Worth remembering Nikon UK will not service Grey bodies under warranty.
