Lexar Professional UDMA Dual Slot USB 2.0 Reader ( UDMA CF/ CF/SD/SDHC Cards )

Guys, bought one of these and seems to work fine but, when i plug it into any USB port on the PC it doesn't automatically show up in 'My Computer'.

Is that the same for you?

I thought an Icon would be there for the reader?

yep

It should show as another drive letter (or possibly 2 as there are 2 slots).

My memory card reader has just broken too but I replaced it with a fast 45MB/s one for the laptop card slot and I have one in the side of the monitor. Still need one for the studio iMac though so watching with interest. Would like one that is universal.

It shows up in 'Device Manager' but not in 'My Computer'. But if i put an SDHC card in it then shows up!

When there is no card in it is a slot, when a card is inserted windows mounts it and it becomes a drive.

Do not worry this is quite normal in a lot of cases.

As someone who builds PCs i thought you would be okay with this aspect of removable drives and the like.

Tony

i have had a very very long day and my brain cannot grasp for all the correct tech details.

As said above, it should show up in 'my Computer' as an extra device. Strange how it doesn't. I will test it on my netbook tomorrow.

IME so do some don't don't - depends on the reader, OS etc.

As long as it works don't worry.

Tony

Not worried about it just never seen this happen.

I plug in my USB DVDrw unit and it shows up straight away.

But your USB DVDRW unit contains a drive so will show up straight away. With the memory card readers it is a slightly different matter.

It is a populated drive.
