A good PC spec for image editing? Advise Please

I am starting out - I have downloaded Lightroom and my pc is not up to the large raw files - changes take an age and if I open a fgew at once then forget it - PC is 6 years old so I am due a new one.

I can build a pc from parts - so I am wondering if there uis a good / best spec I know I need plenty of storage and backup and redundancy for backup But I am a little lost on the GPU and they seem to have changed the CPU's now i7 I see it is now - so whats the crack on pc specs for image editing - OR is it still MACK all the way when it comes to image editing...........I have never owned a mack and I could do without another learning curve to climb up:thumbs:

Depends what your budget is? An i7 system excluding monitor/keyboard and operating system will probably be at least £600/700.

Also worth thinking about what you will use it for. If gaming is not your thing, then a fancy graphics card is not necessary.

I have a 27" iMac and think it is the bees knees. While a little more money you are getting a brilliant computer that dosent crash and runs REALLY fast and at the same time getting probably the best screen on the market. It is absoloutley gorgeous. Really lets you pick out the best photos easily.

If you can afford it then go mac. An i7 PC with keyboard, mouse, screen, exc will not be much cheaper. Especially if you're looking at ascreen as nice as this.
 
That Mac does look nice - But I just on't fancy the extra hassle - all my software I own now is for PC.;)

kingbling11:thumbs: Yeah thats the kinda spec I am looking at with windows 7 64bit I would look at 4 x 2gig ram sticks and a 15000rmp sata 2 drive for system and 4x500gig for a working raid drive in raid 0 with 2 x 2 tb for backup and a ghost of backup
similar GPU and same CPU

I think I will wait until the January sales though:lol::lol::lol:
