Just been thinking. We have a great classified forum but how about adding a section where members can temporarily swap lenses. They can agree a time limit and take care of their own postage andc it would be a great way to try out lenses without paying to hire them. Anyone else think its a good idea?
 
on paper its a good idea but in reality its open to far too much abuse and problems IMHO

Not to mention putting lens hire business out of a living..
 
Yeah, i wouldn't be too keen to post away one of my lenses not knowing either way if another was going to arrive, and then what happens if it gets damaged?
 
No...

Not a cats chance in hell.

Let the businesses with the proper insuarance take care of that, no-one is using my lenses without me being there supervising them.
 
What about a subscription service where people paid a small amount and that would cover any damage loss of equipment not resolved amicably. If everyone doing it sent in proof of id and address to whoever moderated it would limit possible problems. Any better or am I on my own?
 
I don't think this would fly, for reasons mentioned aboved. It would have been done already if it was a good idea.

I think small groups will already do this anyway, i.e local camera club members/photo buddies. I know a pro who lends me stuff at a good rate when I need it.

Postage costs alone would add up, i.e looking at £20+ before you even start.
 
I've never been taken up on offers to lend gear to forum members. It may be because the potential recipients thought I was going to send a dud and try to claim they were responsible :thinking:
