hi
and very sorry for what must seem like a complete nubbie question but thats what i am.
I have a nikon AF-S Nikkor 55-300mm 1:4.5 - 5.6 G ED Lens and would like a lens hood for it but i am really unsure which will fit,
i have a HB-26 on another lens which i thought would fit as i like that hood but this lens dose not have the connector for it so it looks like i can only fit a screw in type or dose the hb-26 come with an adapter to fit a screw type ? sorry if this is all starting to get confusing ?
regards

Looking at the Nikon website, the hood to suit your lens is the HB-57 http://www.europe-nikon.com/en_GB/p...zoom/af-s-dx-nikkor-55-300mm-f-4-5-5-6g-ed-vr . Most zooms need the correct hood so the petal shape doesn't cause vignetting (darkening of the corners of the frame caused by the hood getting in the way). Can't tell from that page whether the hood fitting is bayonet or screw in but I suspect that it's bayonet - most seem to be these days.

My problem is my lens dose not have the bayonet adapter and I did not know if when you purchase a hood the adapter comes with it and you screw it on the lens if that makes sense ?

Looking at that link I gave you, the hood should be in the box with the lens and the rest of the included accessories.

TBH, I wouldn't consider buying a 2nd hand item that didn't come with all the necessary accessories and IMO, a lens hood is just that! Have a look at Mifsuds's website and see if they stock it and also Greys of Westminster who are Nikon specialists. If you still have a contact method with the seller, ask them where your hood is.
