A Hover I've never seen before.

...at least I suspect it's a Hoverfly. This big fat Pie eater came barging its way in onto the goodies and stuck around for a few hours.

I thought initially it was a bee but when it begane to hover in the one spot, I knew it wasn't.

ps. These images are in my Macro section of my Smugmug Gallery. They're a better quality than what is showing here if you choose the original size. I've forced 800 pixels wide for the forum here and they appear to have lost a fair bit of overall quality.

Its either a DRONE-FLY or MYATHROPA FLORAE :thinking:. I caught one today (y)

It is a drone fly, Eristalis tenax to be exact (note the brown stripes on the eyes).
An excellent honey bee mimic.

The in flight crop looks nice.
