Ok seems this would be a good place to ask this..... I am upgrading from my D60 which I love but feel could get more IQ and so on from either the D90 or the D300 I mainly shoot Landscape so the Frame rate is not a biggie. however durability and weather proofing etc are a concern living in the lakes.

So I am swaying toward D90 as find the D300 hard to justify to the powers that be. am selling the D60 to help fund this new
"box that takes pictures" <--- other half's name fer the D60

Sooo what do you guys think also to sway the argument please feel free to show me some landscapes with the D90 I have a nice Tamron f2.8 17-50 ready to go on it etc from the D60 but are they really as good as people say or is it rose tinted glasses?

I know the D7000 is out and if could I sooo would stretch but to be honest frame rate and ISO have no real sense to my regular shooting but it does have a Madnesium body.... ARTGHHHHHHH *pulls hair :bonk::bang:out*

My vote would be for the D300 - I had the same decision a little while a go and arrived at the D300 - apart from weather proofing (never 100% obv) it just felt like a betetr cam in every way and I knew I'd never use the video.

just my view

When you say weather proofing and durability being a concern then that sways me to the D300. It's just a better build of camera to be honest. Picture quality wise you will notice no difference though. So the D90 will have pretty much 90/95% of what you are looking for. What are the main noticeable differences between the 2?

- more AF points on D300 (useless for landscape photography really)
- higher FPS on D300 (again useless for landscape phtography)
- D300 is Heavier but more durable and has better weather proofing
- D90 has a video mode which is supposed to be OK. No better than OK though!

There are other differences, but that would really be the main stuff you'd notice. The only real thing the D300 will offer you is the weather proofing and durability. It's a pretty good build in fairness. But if you can live without that you'd probably pick up a D90 with a kit lens new for the same price as a decent D300 body only second hand.

cheers guys .... well seems that if all sales go throug of stuff I may get a D7000 with some saving which apparently has a mag alloy body
