A New Prime HELP

I am in the market for a new prime, having only ever bought new once before and returned it the day after, this could potentially be my fist brand new purchase of camera equipment. because of lack of S/H stock

dilemma, seriously fell in love with a certain prime at a trade show, funds available to buy, but the tight arse in me is a stubborn mule, i have rang and checked stock that's OK, delivery before xmas good prospects (knock), i am finding it hard to buy it, i feel like Mr crabs off sponge-bob:D, these have been available second hand but are in very short supply IE NIL , and with VAT going too 20% in the new year:eek: that will lift the price as well.

Why don't you buy an old 50/1.4 mf lens second hand first, to check if you'd use that length and shallow depth of field regularly? Bet you would though, can't beat a good prime :)

Have just got rid of the canon 50mm 1.4 in hope of getting this.

it is one fansatic lens sharp @ 1.4 very sharp

just looked through quidco and theres 2% off

It must be the season, I have a bit of money saved up and have a massive urge to go buy a new 5D mk2. Only got my 500D in the summer though so can't really justify it but would love it for the xmas period..
 
and the worst thing is I was originally after a canon 28mm 1.8 as my 50mm is too tight for family stuff indoors, but there wasn't one in stock hence the 5D desire!
 
I have one of these and it's hardly off my camera. It really is a nice lens.
 
After sleeping on it, i will poss bite bullet today, have a cunning plan so to speak

I've got my eyes set on one of these, either next or after a 30mm f/1.4, haven't decided on what system I go with, I reckon on anything other than Canon it'll be this first, but if I go with Canon I'll get the 30mm first, then 50mm if I need a little more reach for serious portraiture :)

The compact size of the primes doesn't bother me too much, I love the chunkiness of the two sigmas :)
 
Having had most canon primes this sigma blows them all away i used the sigma 30mm, 50mm, and 85mm at the trade show, the 50mm did it on my full frame, the sigma guy let me wonder around outside with it and it.s as sharpest i,ve seen, my 5D had just had a free sensor clean as well so even on the LCD screen it was amazing.

Lol yea Andy! Although after swapping the 500 fe. 50 I'm still waiting on amazon to deliver my memory cards! Didn't realise how irritating a camera is you can't take pics with!!!
 
Just ordered the siggy 50mm 1.4 EX DG hopefully be here Xmas eve, coming right from Sigma UK Via UPS, through a online shop very good price as well + the 3 year warranty.

try taking a picture with out the card, some of the canon cameras record 1 image without it being installed, you may have to flick the the instruction book and menu,

like---- shoot w/o sd card in menu or custom funtions

Have you got DPP try a tethered shoot using EOS utility live view i am sure you can snap away while it saves to the hard drive on your comp/laptop, i have a 6 mtr usb hub which i connect to mine, but your usb/camera lead maybe shorter, have ago but you may have to drag your lappy round with you for a while.

Reckon you will have to do a lot more haggling down the caff if you spend out on that lens :)

Hi i am sure there is a EOS utility for iMac check the canon web site and download it.

my mate uses this here

Well it arrived and less than 28 hours from www.thedigitalcamerashop.co.uk left feedback in shopping suppliers bargains

can not wait to try but because it's come from a cold UPS van to my home it's condensed up :razz::nono::bang::thumbsdown::bonk:


so will have to wait a bit longer

Can u not use condensed lenses? Just curious lol glad u got the lens! Memory card arrives today too!

I just bought mine from them. They took my money before stock was confirmed and it arrived 15 days after order, last week. After the trauma, the lens is awesome :D

I'm only using it on my 30D, but it's a damn fine lens :) Shame I've been ill since receiving it. I haven't felt well enough to toddle about in the snow :(

I should add that I would not recommend using that online retailer for buying lenses. I only did as I wanted to save £30 to buy additional items. I'll not be doing that again, and will spend the extra on a reliable retailer. The stress involved, and having to chase them daily, with them giving me a different reason each day I phoned, and promises of call backs which weren't honoured, etc, etc.

I rang them and they confirmed with me that they had none in stock, but they ordered right from Sigma uk and it was sent out in less than 2 hours from the shop receiving the order, and deliverd with a UPS smile, i for one will use them again £20.00 cheaper than anywhere else and fast delivery to boot.

Hi not really personal preference, form a very cold delivery van to my warm home, condensed on outside only left for 1 hour all well,

Yeah, that's what they did with me in the end. It looks like you actually timed it right. I however ordered as stock ran out with Sigma and had to wait for a 10 day restock. It took them 3 days to even bother telling me, and that was only when I chased them after the promised 48 hour delivery had passed.

There was quite a lot that went wrong, but I'd rather avoid posting negative comments. At least so near to Christmas :D
