A numpty flash question

I feel a tad embarrassed asking this but having taken delivery of a D3s (slight second from MPB - excellent condition!) last week:banana: and spending quite a few hours "playing" with it, I was testing out flash etc and suddenly realised that whilst I very rarely use off camera flash if I wanted to with the D3s I would obviously need a trigger as there is no onboard flash on the D3s. For the rare occasions I need it with the D700 I use the commander function, although I have to look it up each time as I can never remember what to do!

Could someone point me in the right direction of what to buy without spending too much as its not something I would use a lot but I do want to start experimenting a bit more?
 
The Nikon version is a SU-800, but not cheap. Most use pocket wizards, again not cheap. So I guess you are left with some cheap radio triggers like Yongnuos RF602's although someone with more knowledge will have to take it from there when it comes to I-TTL support and the like.
 
You can also use the 800 and 900 flashes as commanders, may be a better option than buying the SU800

Duh, of course.. Forgot that minor point :bonk:
What about the 600? Or does that not have that function?
 
I use 3 xSB800s and if using off-camera flash I tend to use Yongnuo RF602s to fire them and set them manually. It will depend partly on your budget (as always) and whether you want to exploit the TTL functionality offered by the CLS system. The cheapest option would be to get a SB-28 (very powerful) and the RF602s.
