Yes
Which is.............

I want a new autofocus long lens.My choices are these:

1.Favourite...........Sigma 300-800, but can`t get one anywhere and can`t get a definate delivery date from Japan, from the usual suppliers......PARK,WHE etc, etc.

2.Nikon 600 F4.......bloody expensive.

3.Nikon 400 F2.8......as above.

I already have a 1.7 TC, which would give me a 1000 F6.7 or a 700 F4.8 on the Nikons, have I got that right?

I have a manual focus 600, for sale soon, but I find it very difficult to get birds in flight with it, probably my lack of ability rather than the lens.......:bonk:..........Which is why the Sigma is so appealing.

Anybody know anywhere that has the Sigma in stock please?

Or should I stick to primes and TC`s?

Nearly all my tog stuff is wildlife, in the wild. And no, i`m not uber rich, have been made redundant and have another job now, so redundancy money is burning a hole..........:)

Any/all opinions/experiences/knowledge gratefully received.

Thanks.

You'd have to register but it may be worth keeping an eye on the Bird Forum classifieds, they sometime come up in there s/h and are much cheaper than retail.

Cheers Gary.

A good start.............:)

Fracster, have you tried Norfolk Camera Centre? They're quite often dark horses where specialist lenses are concerned..

Contact number is 01362 693506

Apparently they're Nikon and Canon pro dealers. Hope this helps(y)

Have you tried Mifsuds? (01803) 852400

The lens is listed on their website but no stock levels are shown (for any products)

Yes, they are checking with Sigma for a delivery time, they have none in stock. I spoke direct with sigma earlier and they could not give a definate date.

Thanks for your help all the same..........(y)

Thanks, a lot of sites are saying 3-5 days for delivery, which I assume means they are not in stock, yet Sigma can give no definate date for delivery from Japan.......

I don`t wan`t to hand over 4.5 grand and then have to wait for weeks if not months.

Guess `ill have to be patient, not one of my strong points.........

 I know from other posts the frustrations you go through :woot::LOL:

Frac, just had a look on Warehouse Express website and it says "low stock" which usually means there is stock but very limited quantities. Have you tried them today? If not, may be worth giving them a ring. They're open till 8pm.

Yay, it is now in my sweaty mits..........:)

Pictures please. That's a dribblingly large lens. Size *does* matter!

I`m off work tomorrow, so shall take some test shots and do a bit of a review.

First thing I noticed is how light it is compared to my 600 F4.............(y)
