Hi,

I'm quite close to getting a 150-600 and I think i like the Tamron, but have concerns about the freeze issue I've heard about, so as people mostly post when they have an issue rather than not I thought I'd do a quick poll to see how bad it really is.

I was going to do this on Nikonites (as it would almost only be Nikon users) but they don;t seem to do polls!

Thanks for any feedback.

John

Not had the Tamron but have you considered waiting until the Nikon 200-500 is out? It's what Im going to do and wait until after Christmas for the prices to settle before making the decision, which will also give time for user reviews. I have bought a Fifty and 105 Macro this week and will probably get a 70-300 before end of month to tie me over until the 200-500 comes out. Also, by waiting it may push the prices down on the Sigma and Tamron 600mm lenses?

Just a thought John.

Never for me, can't fault the lens tbh, much better performance than the price would suggest. That being said, I got mine for £699 after cash back. As above you could wait for the Nikon, but it'll cost you a few hundred pounds more for 100mm less (albeit 1/3 stop better at the long end) and nearly 1/2 kilo extra weight. The nikon would have to be significantly better to justify it tbh, which of course it could well be. But with the price and weight you're getting close to the Sigma 150-600mm Sports which is an excellent lens.

Very interesting pitch by Nikon that's for sure, and interesting to see how it pans out. I do wonder why, with the 'recent' shift to 600mm zooms why Nikon have chosen to go with 500mm?

Fair point - the Tamrons looking quite attractive, in part due to the cashback on for the next week.

Happened to me only a couple of times when I first got it (when they first came out about 18 months ago) not happened for months and months now and never on my D750. It's my mist used lens and I love it. Would definitely buy it again. (And I paid almost 1K for it).

b****r! Voted yesterday...(Never), went out this morning and after about thirty shots the lens refused to focus....just stopped working. Switched camera off and baxk on, all okay. No more problems during the outing. Strange......
