... from another (non photography) forum. Could some knowledgeable soul shed some light (pardon the pun).

Dave: "Can you get DLSRs with backlit CMOS yet?"

Me: "I don't think the BI sensor is commercially available. It's a bit gimmicky for DSLR use, a bit like the Sigma Favion sensor, too costly to incorporate, leading the manufacturer to suffer sale losses."

Dave: "Really? I would have thought removing the electronics from the light path would have been a priority?"

How would this discussion conclude? I'm afraid I'm just a photographer with no real knowledge of the electronic configs and innards.

I was under the impression the sony sensor used in the A580, pentax K-5 and nikon D7000 was backlit?

Very little information about it from a google, so I was probably misinformed.

Ya, I was under the impression that BSI's were for security cameras and the like where an autoISO function isn't available... maybe? But the question is I guess, why would it be a priority for a DSLR to incorporate a BSI? Would there be any real benefit?
