HI Peeps,

I have a friend who is a hobbyist and likes to take pictures of wildlife.

He has a Canon 500D

He said he has added the 55-250 to it, no other details, and says it still leaves him short when taking wildlife pictures.

His question was, and I quote:

A lot of people here say that the Sigma 150-500mm is good and reasonably priced.
 
I've had a Canon 100-400 IS L, a Sigma 150-500 OS and a Sigma 120-400 OS and to be quite honest the 150-500 is the best of the bunch IMO. I've since sold the Canon, but both the Sigmas are excellent, but the extra 100mm just nicks it for me.
 
Another vote for the Sigma 150-500, best bang for buck long lens out there.

The 100-400 can be a useful lens.

Yes it's softer at the long end, yes it sucks up dust, yes it costs a bit more, but:

It can deliver when you understand how best to use it
