I'm looking for a lens hood for my 50mm prime, and I've seen a few on amazon, the thing is, it isnt anything like my other lenses (yes im pretty new to photography sorry) So I'm trying to ensure i dont order the wrong thing. I saw this on amazon,

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/...&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=467128473&pf_rd_i=468294

That would be perfect, Im just not 100 percent sure it will fit for some reason. I guess because the 50mm looks like it would have trouble fitting a hood to it. Again, im new! But any insight would be great so i could go ahead and order this.

Thanks guys.

hoods for the 1.8 come with an adapter that screws directly onto the filter thread of the lens since there is no hood fitting on the lens (at least the ones I have seen do anyway)

I seem to remember getting mine form Gadget infinity... let me try and find a link...

EDIT: here it is... http://www.gadgetinfinity.com/product.php?productid=17045&cat=272&page=2

Maybe worth noting, a lot of people suggest not bothering with a hood for the 50mm 1.8 since the front element is fairly recessed anyway :)

Yeah i saw that hood Rob, but id much rather a petal hood, cosmetic i know but still! Yeah the element is recessed, i just like the extra security a hood brings, feel much more comfortable getting into awkward spots with the camera,

Is there any way of telling if that hood comes with said adapter? They state it fits, so id assume that would be the case normally, but i cant see how it would looking at the image.

Maybe it will only fit onto filters? That brings me to another question, do regular filters fit the 50mm?

Yes you can get filters for the 50mm. You need to get 52mm filters. And as for the hood only fitting onto a filter. It would fit onto the filter using the thread on it which is exactly the sae way the filter would fit to the lens itself so you wouldn't need a filter in order to use the hood.

Its kinda hard to tell if it does come with an adapter or not... however I would assume it would, but I cant tell for sure - maybe a little google searching would turn up some info?

When I mentioned it fitted onto the filter thread, I meant the thread on the lens the filter attaches to, sorry - was unclear on my part. You should still be able to attach a filter (52mm) to the adapter of the lens hood though if you needed (you could on mine anyway)
