A quick question regarding grips

I never thought of getting a grip until I heard about the extra button for shutter release on the grip in portrait.

But I also heard that on the grip I was looking at (Amazon £25) the button is less sensitive than the button on the camera.

Anyone have experience of this on grips or is this just because its cheap, although it dies get excellent feedback with one person saying its just like an original
 
Third party grips may not always be ideal, I have heard of cases where they are flimsy or don't fit properly or not water tight. I am not saying all third party grips are like this but something to be aware of.

I would always go for one made by the same camera manufacture. Ok they may cost a little more but worth it

Thanks, but what about the sensitivity of the other shutter button. Should that be the same as the one on the camera or is less sensitive different feel a feature of battery grip shutter buttons
 
I've had times where my Nikon MB-D10 grip's shutter button has shot few frames off by mistake when I've held it a certain way - but that was only as I didn't lock it off :$

I did a search on these forums for threads with 'Linkdelight' in the title and I got the links that way. Like you I found it hard actually locating them through ebay itself (I don't use it often!)

Was posting on my phone earlier, so couldn't type much (frustrates me), but am on a PC now so will type some more. I really wanted an MB-D10 for my D300s, but the cost just put me off too much. I'd read many favourable reviews of the Linkdelight one on here, so decided to take the plunge for a fraction of the price. Have been absolutely delighted with the outcome. The main reason I wanted one was not for looks, or battery life or FPS, it was for the portrait shutter button, and it's saved my wrist a lot of pain!

Yeah very hard to find actual sellers on ebay :shrug:

But I am the same as you I don't want a grip for extra batteries as my battery seems to last forever anyway and who cares about looks its the grip when shooting portraits (and I shoot a lot of portraits) that I want one for but when I heard the buttons were a bit dodgy (on the one I was looking at) that put me off

I don't have a grip, but when I have looked, some of them appear to have more features than the manufacturer's grips. Some of them for example allow for time-lapse snapping and things like that.
 
I've hgad a non OEM and genuine Canon grip on my 5DII. The non OEM (apart from not working correctly with battery reporting which is why I changed it) did not have as good a feel/buttons on it - the shutter release was definitely more clunky. Whether that matters to you or not depends how picky you are....
 
Things like grips seem to come up in the classifieds on here quite regularly. I reckon if you can get on OEM one second hand you won't lose too much cash on it.
 
Another thumbs up for the link-delights, use one on my D300s and I'm aware there may be weather proofing issues but other than that it's perfect. Have used it in very heavy rain and snow and all I do when I get back is take the grip off and dry the wet (if any) that has made it's way in, but we are talking torrential storms btw :)
