A tripod modification

I bought a Gitzo Explorer G2220 tripod a few years ago for getting into awkward places. Its the one with the offset centre column that swivels and moves into almost all positions.
The problem I had was that to get down low, you had to move the centre column out of the way, which meant it was less sturdy out on an arm that can extend about 35cm. So I made a short column out of 28mm aluminium bar that takes all the original fittings.
The photo below shows the centre column about 100mm off the ground.

Excellent Job! I've not got this tripod but my Manfrotto lets me turn the centre column upsidedown, the camera is inverted too but you can get really low. Biggest problem is getting your eye down there! Your solution looks much tidier.
