A versatile lens needed

Hello!

So payday came around as slow as ever, and I think i'm ready to splash out some cash on a new lens.

I already have a Canon 100-400mm L and Sigma 50mm but i'm in need of something more versatile. I know the 50mm is very handy but perhaps being prime, it's kind of a one trick pony!

What would best suit my growing infantry of lenses?

Welcome to TP

What body are you using and what do you shoot would be my first questions?

A wide of some sort would be handy. If you are using a 1.6x cropped body then you could consider the excellent 10-22mm which gives you the equivalent field of view of 16-35mm. I would also say that the 18-55 standard zoom with IS is a very capable tool. If you were feeling flush you could consider the 17-55. Some of my 1.6x user friends rate the 15-85mm too.

If you are using a FF body, then based on what you have, I would look at a 24-70 or 16-35. Remember, you can pick up pre-loved items too and save yourself some money.

I am using a 5D mk3.

To be honest I don't really shoot anything in particular! However, I do very much enjoy shooting landscapes as I had borrowed a wide angle for my 600D previously! So perhaps it would be wise to go for something like that..

I have bought both of my lenses off eBay, and I did promise myself I wouldn't again as I don't feel to safe doing so. Are their any other websites or places I can find used camera lenses?

I shall research said lenses pronto.

And another for the 24-105 f4L, I'd not used mine for a while after getting a 24-70 f2.8 but after using it at a all day gig in London a while ago I'm loving it again. Mine's so sharp on my 5D3 and it's unbelievable that it's a kit lens.
 
the fact that it is a kit lens does seem to deter me from the 24 - 105... however, the price is great and from the reviews i've just seen it seems like a fantastic lens! oh decisions, decisions.
 
You have plenty on options to consider.

24-105 is very good choice, but NOT the sharpest ( I know you will hate me).

Also a good question to yourself: are you happy with the prime lens ? If yes - very good options to consider as well.

If not - I would like to suggest Canon 24-70mm f/2.8 L II
Not the cheapest option on the market, but if you can afford it, it is better.
