Hi

Thanks for the comments, My favourite is the first and third.
My print them all out at A2 and see which is my fav them.
thanks again for the comments.

Ah well its pi**ing it down again today, so no photos today, and work tomorrow. roll on friday and the weekend.

Mark

Sorry but I am not excited by these. In their defence the exposures all seem sound even down to choice of timing for blurring water.

The main problems are that of composition. Take #3 which is the "strongest" shot; the tree is not really the main feature (the waterfalls are) so distracts rather than provides interest. The photo is somewhere in the bottom right corner. A little zooming and moving may have given a better view.
The part of the waterfall that you can see between the limbs of the tree looks like the side of a beer keg (maybe thats me needing a drink:)) and again distracts rather than provide interest.

Get back there after the rain and have another go!

My comments are intended as constructive criticism however if you disagree please feel free to ignore or berate me :D

I have looked at what you say. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, which I may or may not agree with and on this occasion I disagree. But thanks for sharing your views, I do read what people say. I'm always willing to learn something.

Just for a bit of info, the No. 1 image just sold. (Quickest sale I have ever had, and one I thought may struggle)

How do you going about selling your pictures? I like the third one the best personally.

I submit them to Photo agency's, My surfing pics to a specialist surfing agency, and to the relevant magazines.

No probs :) I submit here for C&C and to get a feel for what appeals. I am pleased you took my opinions on balance.

You must tell me where #1 sold and for how much? That does surprise me.

Oooooh... post some surfing stuff up and tips please. I am trying to get into this area with living so close to the beaches in the North East.

Bloody crap all of them...

Seriously Mark these are all very good but #3 is a corker and as stated printed out in large format I bet it looks fantastic, I print a lot of A3 stuff and what looks mediocre online often looks awesome in large print..:)

Well done indeed, but I too am surprised.
No. 1 just doesnt have anything in it as far as I can see. I have binned shots like these without even taking them off the camera. (I dont
mean to be rude here, just amazed that someone bought it).
Although I was thinking you meant sold for someone to blow up big and put on their wall, maybe stock photos mean they just pop them in a leaflet or something? :)

Now No.3 would look fabulous printed big and hung on a wall! ;)

As a relative beginner I thought no. 1 looked like some of my own unsatisfactory shots, where I wondered afterwards exactly what it was I felt worth recording. However I really like no. 3. Even a beginner like me can have opinions. One of these days I'll post some of my own images and then await the flak.

You will be supprised what sells for stock, and you will end up with more than selling it privately. I have sold some very strange non discript images through stock.
It is cheaper for the editor to buy stock than comission a photo. A friend recently sold a picture of an empty car park.

Agreed!

I appreciate that you do not want to share the details of the buyer for the above shot and am of the opinion that your skills lie not just within the photographic realm but that you must be a great salesman!. I take it however that this agency is not of the iphoto variety.

According to your EXIF this shot was taken at 4.36pm on the 20th and you have earned what many charge as an appearance rate within a week from (really sorry I am a nice fellow honest  ) a very ordinary shot! Bloody outstanding!

I dont know who the buyer was I dont get given that information.
As soon as I have processed my images they are sent to various agencys depending upon where i think they may do well, or on how fast a particular agency process the pictures and host them on their site for sale. Some of the larger agencys take upto a month to get pics onto their site. This particular one went to a private agency specialising in Landscape photographs, they have a very quick turn around, for hosting, places like Alamy etc take much longer to do this.

I wont submit any images to so called Micro payment agencys where the sale is usually in the $30 region.

I have a lot of experience in submitting to agencys as i have written and implemented workflows to enable the guy I work for part time to submit to various agencys as they all have their own submission criteria.

Thanks for the info, I am sure many here will be fascinated by this thread. A common question on these forums is "Which stock libraries should I use?".

Well done once again. Perhaps one day you will share some of your workflow ideas. That is a huge and interesting subject.

Gary.
