I quite like the shot - am not 100% sure but feel that a slightly closer, more defined crop may have improved it tbh - but then you would have lost the nice trees in the foreground & the shot may not have worked.
I think that it's an "almost there" shot for me if I'm honest - have you tried a b&w conversion?

I've not tried B&W yet. Actually the original idea was to capture before the couple walked to the end of the lane. It should been near the middle position where the light penetrated the tree. Unfortunately i wasn't fast enough and let the chance slipped.
