A waste of money?

With my wife going back to work in the next couple of weeks I should finally have a little more 'me' cash to hand, so I'm thinking of new lenses (as well as saving for a second body) and I'm wondering whether the Nikon 18-105mm AF-S DX Nikkor f3.5-5.6 G ED VR lens (as supplied with the D90) is worth buying given my current lenses (18-55 & 55-200 kit lenses). In terms of reach I'm obviously not gaining much other than being able to get out to 105 without switching to the longer 55-200 I already have, but is there a noticeable difference in image quality, and is it sharp at the long end?

I'm trying to decide if it's worth it. If it is I may go for D90 kit with one bundled, if not then it'll be a D90 body and something else. But that's if I decide to go for a D90 (which I'm also not sure about lmao), which brings me to my final question: If I was to go for a used D200 would the 18-105 VR do it justice?

Sorry for the rambling post, but I'm knackered :)

Check the used prices for the D90 kit lenses, when I bought my D80 it worked out cheaper to buy the it plus the 18-135 lens and flog the lens (after 6 months use) than to buy a body on it's own. However, if I'd bought the 18-70 combo, I would have ended up about £50 worse off....

Good point Flash. It doesn't help that I'm still torn between new D90 or second hand D200 for £100 or so less.

I'm really interested to hear peoples opinions on the 18-105 though :)
