Hey Guys.

My current wedding glass are the Sigma 24-70 f2.8, Canon 70-200 f2.8 L and the Canon 50mm f1.4

I have had some focusing trouble with the sigma glass, which has basically made me want to upgrade it to a canon lens.

I am looking at going for the same length (24-70mm) in the canon L version.

Before I purchase this new lens, I was just wondering if there were any other glass that you may suggest, simular to the 24-70mm but possibly better quality, or just a better lens?

Thanks

If you believe in rumours, the 24-70mm f/2.8 IS is coming out maybe as early as January. I will be upgrading if the price is similar. The current one is OK, but far from excellent considering the price. IS would make a lot of difference too, I get too much motion blur below 1/100s with this lens (70-200mm f/4 @ 70mm feels a bit more stable).

For weddings I normally use either a 17-40L or 24-105L on my 40D. I like the extra reach of the 24-105L but I find the 24 end on the cropped sensor a bit restricting when working in tight spaces. Thats where the 17-40L comes in.
Now that I have a 5D Mk2 it will be the 24-105L only from now on. That will save me from faffing about changing lenses mid shoot. I'll perhaps use my 70-200L for long shots such as inside the church from the balcony.

Yes, 2.8 would be nice but to be honest I had no problems with f4. Afterall its only 1 stop and if need be, I up the ISO 1 stop. I quite often shoot indoors at up to ISO 640-800 with minimal IQ loss

You have led a charmed life... You will at some point be faced with a dimly lit room that f4 has no chance... no matter what the iso... You may even find f2.8 and your cameras hishest iso isnt enough... if you can get f2.8 then get it.. you will need it one day... trust me you will :)

Weren't you allowed to use flash?
I know of some churches that don't allow it.
I don't usually take shots of the actual ceremony unless its from the balcony. I use flash at the signing of the register when I get the nod from the minister.

If you are sticking with the 40d, then what about the EFS 17-55 F2.8 IS? I find that F4 is quite limiting for inside shots, plus the wide end of the 17-55 would be more than useful.
