On Friday, Monday and Tuesday I have my final photography exam in which I am required to produce a final piece over a 15 hour period.
The project I picked was 'Challanging Convensions' where I have looked into ideas and concepts you wouldn't normally expect to be photographed. Over time this moved onto emotion and how people react to certain situations.
In the recent past few weeks I have been researching performance art and looking into appropriate artists such as Chris Burden. For the exam I have permission and intend to do a performance art piece. Here's the plan:
Friday - I build a shed like room in the art blocks main entrance room.
Monday - I lock myself in this room for a period of 5 hours. I connect my camera to my computer and take a photo every X seconds. The security camera is turned around and pointed looking into the room. The video gets streamed directly to a television outside.
Tuesday - I edit photos and come to conclusions.
(I have permission and this has been agreed with the appropriate members of staff).
The problem I'm facing is that in my opinion performance art should come with an element of surprise. I'm not going to create that effect if everyone already knows exactly what's going to happen.
I'm looking for an additional idea that I can add into the Monday performance art piece An idea that no one but me knows about. Something that will create the element of surprise I am after.
Any thoughts? Suggestions?
Adam
