The Sony A99 will take ANY A-Mount lens.

If the lens is designed to be used with a 'Crop' sensor (rather than full frame) then you need to switch the camera to 'crop' mode, where it will only use an APS-C sized area of the sensor to record the image file (which will be of a reduced size accordingly).

Sony APS-C lenses will cause the camera to do this automatically, other lenses (Minolta, Sigma, Tamron, etc) will require you to change this setting yourself - if you forget, you'll get a full frame image with severe vignetting.

Generally, you should avoid any Sony lenses with the "DT" designation, as these are APS-c lenses. As has been said,if you use DT lenses on a FF body the camera will automatically crop the image to APS-c (around 10mp, in the case of the a99).

Most, but not all Minolta AF lenses are FF.
