AA filter or not

I saw an interesting review on dpreview, a comparison between the D800 and the D800e.

They say (and show in example pictures) that apparently you can sharpen the images of the D800 a little more than those of the D800e, and if you do that, the subtle difference in sharpness goes away. All of this is only visible when pixel peeping, but still I find it interesting.

I have to admit that after the additional sharpening, I can hardly see a difference.

What do you guys think about this?

I had both loaned to me for 2 weeks prior to buying. I decided to save the £300 and got the D800. The differences were minimal and only noticeable on really, really big prints. Incidentally, I hardly use additional sharpening on the D800.. just the default settings the metadata carries over into Lightroom. It's just not necessary.

Judging by the cameras introduced since the D800, Nikon appear to have decided that the AA filter is a thing of the past.
