was using the camera a minute ago, and its thrown up this fault.

err 01 lens to camera communication fault, please clean connections.


i've only had my 40d and 24-105L for a week, its been fautless untill now.

i stuck my cheap flash on and tried a few shots, got a bout 10 shots off fine then it threw up the fault code. wont do anything untill i switch it off and on, then a couple more shots and the fault will come back.

i've now figured out that its doing it on all settings, i.e M/Av/Tv etc, anything after 30mm

intermittant but there's definatly a problem there.
whats this likely to cost me?

Try cleaning the contacts, err-01 is for faulty communications between the camera and lens.
In most cases this is caused by a build up of fine dirt on the electronic contacts of the lens, so cleaning them resolves it.

If you hold the lens pointing upwards (contacts point downwards), then gently rub them with a hard eraser, it could resolve the problem.

Otherwise it will be a fault with the lens
 
i'll try it just now, but the look pretty clean to be honest
 
cleaning its made no difference.

gutted, only had the lens a week and a bit....
 
was it bought new or used?

If new, contact canon about an in warranty repair, if used I'd be contacting the seller since it seems like it has been sold with the issue.
 
I'm not going to name names etc as it was actually bought off a member on here with quite a high trade number and 100% trader rating.

i've sent them a pm about the issue and am patiently waiting a reply.

Do you have any other Lenses to try? If not, it won't be clear if it's a lens or body issue.

Edit - missed the post about the 50mm'!

I am the seller who sold Alan the lens and I consider your statement to be totally unjustified!!!!!!


As anyone, including you should know any fault can occur at any time it is just unfortunate when it happens after buying second hand or when it is out of warranty and in Alan's case he has had the lens for 14 days now.

I am a totally honest person and all my sales on here have been performed honestly with nothing underhanded, I have even refunded on a couple of occasions without question when goods have been lost in the post. This lens has performed faultlessly for me since I bought it brand new in 2007, I am simply not the kind of person that would sell on anything knowing it had a fault.

Alan has pm'd me and I have responded, he is satisfied I have done nothing underhanded.

i've spoken to Mal via pm about this,

and am happy that he didn't know about any fault. and i cant be sure if it was like it when he sold it to me or if its just happened last night. so i'm not going down the refund route.

just need to find a repair centre near me.
 
Ok problem solved, took it into the photography section in work they tested it on a 7d and it was doing the same, cleaned the contacts with whatever stuff they use and it seems to have sorted it!

Must admit I am not too overjoyed at having a finger pointed at me and having my honesty questioned when all it needed was the contacts cleaned!
 
Hmmm. Have to question why the op didn't just leave this to pm's.

I have said how I feel about this and like Jim says "Onwards and upwards".....however, for your information all anyone needs to do to find out who sold what to whom is to look at their trader feedback.
 
As far as I am concerned this is now over and before it descends into a right or wrong debate I am going to request it be closed as it no longer has anything to do with equipment.

It was not meant to be in any way a personal insult, just that I would normally assume any fault with my equipment that showed up within a week after purchase to have been present when it was sold (whether it is new and bought from somewhere very reputable or bought from a very reputable second hand dealer or member on here).

If I offended you I apologise, but when I made that comment I had no idea whether the OP had bought it new or from a dodgy ebay auction, so I was just advising the OP to do what I would do in the circumstance he seemed to be in, not trying to point a finger.
