I'm just wondering if anyone knows of anything like this.

I have seen cane hill hospital and fell in love with it, not sure about the access to such a place. I called the owners of Cane Hill and they said they will ask the 'client' if we can go shoot there but I wont hold my breath.

Anybody know any alternatives?

I'll keep an eye on this thread. if you do manage to get into Cane Hill i'll do my best to tag along!!

I used to call in there once a week for work. Depressing place but spooky now it's empty.

The main issue I have is getting permission to go into these places
Cane Hill said No way too dangerous.

Is it a case of breaking in or being there without permission EVERY time or are there places, like Cold Christmas church that are abandoned and open to the mob?

has'nt cane hill been demolished? im sure it has, i know west park is still there though went there back in the summer

Interesting links thank you. At my age and health I don't think I'll be sneaking in and avoiding guards but I did enjoy looking at the photos from these crazy guys LOL

Oh i'd love to do something like this. I recently got into an abandoned house & got some interesting images from it

The old Mansfield General Hospital (funnily enough in Mansfield) has been empty for nearly 20 years. I think there were some pics on the 28days later site. As far as i know you are not officially let in but it is for sale so may be worth asking the agent.

If someone could come up with a good interesting place without too much hassle it would be a great place for a meet up hehehe

I have a band that need shooting this kind of thing would be ideal

Most of the urbexers and mine explorers seem to regard the problem of finding a way in, and avoiding any security, as part of the challenge. They have their own "rules". Check out http://www.28dayslater.co.uk/forums/ for a lot more information.

I've explored derelict buildings/high rises in Johannesburg central business district during burglary investigations. It was interesting, in a way, but this was just work and I never felt any need to go back for myself. Exploring abandoned hospitals and mental institutions fascinates some people, and finding the mortuary and post mortem equipment seems to be the top prize. I worked in a hospital when I was a student, and I was a police officer after that. I've seen a fair amount of death, and attended quite a few post mortems, but I find this recreational interest macabre and I just don't understand it. We all make our own choices, I suppose.

Tell them that it's a shoot for an up and coming band and that you will note a thanks to them for letting you use the premisis, that may sway them!!

These places are usually in a poor state of repair, they more than likely wouldn't have the insurance in place to give permission for people to enter the buildings. If you're descrete, it's easy enough to get in though.

Handy site/resource if your looking for locations of a derelict nature

http://www.geograph.org.uk/search.php

Just enter your postcode or location and then in the search for box put 'derelict' or 'abandoned' or the such.

A few sites I'm a member on are:

Derelict Places - very laid back and inviting.

Urbex Forums - serious explorers.

Most urbexers have websites too (like mine, only 1000000000 times better and far more up to date), just google.

One little thing though, don't go asking for access details or suggestions, you'll pretty much always get told to ********** off.

me and my mate are planning to go to Auschwitz as soon as we can agree a mutually convenient date... yes i know... not exactly local... and not exactly abandoned as it will be full of tourists.. but still somewhere we've both decided we've got to go and shoot.

anyone been? (prob been a thread already somewhere but i've piggy backed on this one)

Definitely something I'd be up for, being Polish I think quite a few of my old relatives were last seen there.

Some excellent info thank you everyone.

I think I will sneak in somewhere with the whole band and get some shots then IF I get caught will say the other bunch of photographers who just left said to say I was with them.
:D
