So, I haven't been to a motorsport event or posted here since I lost interest in photography and sold all of my gear 3 years ago (Canon 1DX & 200-400 with extender). Last year I decided it was time to purchase a camera again, so I went for a bridge camera for lightness and less fuss - the Sony RX10 iv. I wasn't expecting miracles, but considering the terrible weather conditions, I'm pleasantly surprised with the performance. I am certainly never going to buy a DSLR again! All focal lengths are 35mm equivalent, as the 1" sensor gives a 2.7x crop. Image #7 is only here to demonstrate the Sony Clear Image zoom. All shot in JPEG.

#1: 135mm; 1/640s; f/4; ISO-400

#2: 200mm; 1/320s; f/4; ISO-400

#3: 400mm; 1/640s; f/4; ISO-500

#4: 135mm; 1/80s; f4.5; ISO-100

#5: 119mm; 1/250s; f4; ISO-400

#6: 100mm; 1/160s; f4; ISO-400

#7: 600mm (plus 1.4375x digital zoom = 884mm); 1/400s; f/4; ISO-320

#8: 400mm; 1/1250s; f/4; ISO-800

First one the best of the bunch!
Thank you. That was a tough shot to get: on the right a park bench covered by hay bales; on the left of me a tree. Just managed to catch the bike as it sped in between.
Number 7 for me.
It's funny, because I only included that one to demonstrate the huge zoom
Much better than I would have expected from a bridge camera. Obviously in the right hands, they can do an admirable job. Good stuff
It was an eye opener. It's definitely snapping at the heels of some DSLRs. The convenience of size, weight and zoom range make it an easy decision to not go back to DSLRs. For a bridge camera, I think it's superb.
