.. he's just bought his first 'proper' camera (a Nikon D3100).

I've bought him the first Scott Kelby book, which helped me immensely when I first set out with my D40x, off Amazon for dirt cheap, and now have roughly £20-£25 left to spend on him.

Any thoughts?

Cokin ND Grad and holder?
Couple of decent lens cloths?
Cheap Tripod?
Basic Camera Bag?

The grads might blow his mind a little bit to begin with. Might wait for his birthday next year for that when he understands things a bit more.

Lens cloth isn't a bad idea actually. Will look into that.

He's got a (very) cheap tripod already, which actually seems to fit the camera ok.

Camera came with a small lowepro bag already.

How about a monopod for £9.45 with Free postage and excellent reviews from 38 people. Find it HERE

I have bought one (wife put it away for Christmas) but it came very quickly (2 days) and that was on free super saver postage
 
A lens pen and rocket blower? In terms of books Understanding Exposure is also quite good particularly for beginners.

I have one too and for the money i was totally delighted:thumbs::clap::thumbs:

Probably 40 come Christmas when I open mine :clap:
 
Gorilla pod, I like mine, ideal when you don't want to lug a tripod around.
