Anyone know what ID or accreditation is required to take pics in Downing St outside number 10? Quite fancy it for a change.

I believe access can be granted if you apply to Charing Cross Police Station to carry out a static demonstration (this could be a sticker on our lapel!)

Alternatively just call them and ask tell them what you are after.

Nick.

The last time I was there you could just wander down there and take as many pics as you liked...

It was 45 years ago though. Things have certainly changed, not necessarily for the better.

I would guess a UK Pess Card would get you in there. Don't know for certain though.

Is the correct answer, under the Serious Organised Crime and Police act (the one brought in to try and evict Brian Haw, the parliament square protester.

Mark Thomas did this in 2007, along with 2800 other individual protesters. It was a really funny broadcast, I don't think any longer available.

I asked a police officer at the gate a few weeks ago and he said to call the press office.

The number is 020 7930 4433.

ISTR in the 1970s it was a point of national pride that our Prime Minister was a regular citizen who lived in an ordinary street like anyone else and did not have a presidential palace and guards separating him from the people.

:suspect:

OK - thanks for the replies guys. I'll nose around and let you know how I get on.

I think your suffering from 'when I was a lad' syndrome :)

There has always been an armed police presence guarding the PM (see this link here) and while its true that 30 years ago you could walk down Downing Street, I remember doing so, the public right of way still exists in Downing street. Exactly how you would exercise that right I have no idea

The very best thing about this government's anti-terrorism idiocy was Mark Thomas' "My Life in Serious Organised Crime" ... the joke builds and builds, and is a great half hour's comedy

:lol::lol: that killed me. Not seen/heard that one before.

I am a big fan of MTCP, but you probably all guessed that already
