Accessories or 7D?

Basically, I've been asking a few questions lately cause I'm getting a 400mm.. I hve a 550D with a standard £30 lens and bog standard head.. I have a backpack which would carry what I need..

Should I upgrade all of that and spend around £400 on it. Or should I save a extra few pennies and get a 7D in a few weeks?

I'm not sure what to do cause both will help me in my bird photography!

Ahh haha, I'm a little on edge buying a head for £400 just at the moment haha

Am I right in thinking you've never been birding before? My advice would be to try it a few times with you have and see; a) if you actually enjoy it and b) what you'd need to enjoy it further.

Not all of them are £400. I have one of the manfrotto jobbies. It's big, heavy and not a real gimbal as such but does a great job! Stick that on a sturdy tripod and your life will be much easier.
 
I use a monfrotto 393 long lens bracket on a good sturdy monopod it's a bit better for getting in the smaller hides bought my 393 second hand for £70 quid have a good look around you could drop on a bargain

That is the one! ;) It makes long lens shooting from static positions much more comfortable.
 
Which 400mm lens are you getting?

I would say use it for a while and see what you find you need - you really need to get used to the 400mm before considering changing your camera as well.
 
Ahh yeah, ive been told the 393 is a good bracket! Looks really nice also! And its only the 400mm 5.6L.

Actually, if you will be in a hide or somewhere with a shelf/resting place a camera beanbag is also a very good thing. Cheap and effective for steadying.
