ACDSee - colours seem richer?

I hope I am describing this issue correctly.

I am viewing my images in 'ACDSee' when viewing them they seem to be much richer colours (e.g. blacker blacks, deeper blues etc) than when I go to edit them, weather I go to edit them in ADOBE photoshop or edit them inside the 'ACDSee' editor. Why is there a difference and how can i stop that difference from taking place

Sorry for that last question, immidatly after pressing submit, I realised that it must have been reducing the contrast, I was correct, but, why?

Are we talking jpeg or raw here?

My guess is the default raw rendering is different between the programs, check if they are both using the same profile, from memory acdc doesn't colour manage by default (I could be wrong) while photoshop does.
