Actuations on Canon 5D

I've done a fair bit of googling on this and tried a few extended EXIF readers and got conflicting advice but can't seem to get the number of actuations that my 5D has taken. Anyone know the trick or does it have to be done by Canon?

I'm starting to wonder how long it will last as I've had it 3 years and recon I click about 30,000 shots a year but I may be way out.

I tried to find out for mine as well recently. From the research I've done, I don't think its possible.

The folder name is incremented every 10,000 shots, if that helps.

Sometimes the simple answer is staring you in the face You're right if I go back through my archives I should be able to work out how many times I've been round the clock.

But if you change memory cards the file number changes, surely?

Luckily I've had mine on continuous numbering since the start.

I've just been through my files and I've shot about 65000 frames since I got it in September 2006.

out of interest, is your camera saving its pictures in folder something like 600EOS5D?

As I understand the manual, although you can set it to continuous, it still depends on the card you are using.

That's my experience as well.....file numbers jump around a lot.

You'd think it would be simple to have real continuous file numbering then there would be need for obscure bits of software to get the right number....
