Do these type of kits have any real value for a complete amateur like me? I'm reluctant to go spending £100's on expensive equipment if my skills won't do any justice to it all.

i doubt it very much ,love the description ... very vague
probably low quality all round.

Thats a lot of money for what you get, would be better spent on good quality filters or put towards a nice lens.

have to agree, there a reason most people carry round 2+ lenses and not one of these.

Cheers folks - I guessed as much really. Being a total nooob, I always prefer to ask those in the know before spending any cash. It's all too easy to fall into the bargain trap - where things look good in an advert, only to be complete junk when you see it in the flesh.
