Adding copyright/owner data to Exif?

I've noticed that a few people have their name included in the Exif of their shots on Flickr. Can anybody tell me how I can do this on a Canon EOS 40D please? I'm guessing it's something in EOS Utility but I can't find it.

I use Elements 6 to upload or Irfanview if I want to resize a batch or something, and they both have the ability to add details to the images. If you want your name (or website name) to be added as the shots are taken then you would need to use the software provided with the camera.

You are correct, it is done through EOS Utility, connect the camera, launch the program and go to the settings tab, is done there.

Where.?

I've just connected my 40D to try this and can't find the function you're refering to.? Are you refering to a specific 'EXIF settings' feature or something else like 'Owners Name'.??

dont canons let you do this in the menu on the camera? i have done this to my photos using the comment option in the setup menu

Same as me, I couldn't find it either. I know it can be done which is the annoying thing.

Canon's don't let you add the data 'in camera', as far as I'm aware.

In EOS Utility, you have 3 buttons next to each other, one has a camera on, the next a Hammer and Spanner, the last a star, you want the Hammer and Spanner, click this, you shoud then see a setting for Owners name, this is where you enter it. You click it it gives a box with a text box and canncel OK buttons.

Yep - got that sorted already. I thought you were refering to a specific EXIF data field for 'copyright'.

Ah sorry, think that is done in post prosessing. I.E in Photoshop, not to sure.

I have Photoshop CS3, any pointers on where I need to go to add the data? And can it be done automatically when I open an image in Photoshop? I don't want to do it manually every time.

File > File Info...

File > File Info...

Thanks for that, I've found it now. Does anybody know how to set Photoshop to do this automatically when I save the image as a jpeg? I don't want to have to open that menu and type my name every time I save a file.

First thing is to record a new action, say called add file info.
Then in the File:Scripts - Scripts event manager
Select the Action button at the bottom and your new action
Photoshop Event : Save Document
ADD

I have mine set to add the file info on Open Document

Do you know how to set up actions??
They're dead easy, I use them for copyright, saving, resizing, watermarking..

When you have your image open, click on the actions tab (with layers/history, on the right hand side unless you have it somewhere else), click on the tiny drop down arrow at the top of the actions pallet and click on new action (this can be put in a 'new set' too to make it easier to find amongst the adobe default actions), then name it, and at the bottom of the actions pallet, click on the record button. Then, go to file info, fill in the owner, copyright info and all that jazz, click Ok and then click stop in the actions pallet. easy peasy and you don't have to bother doing it every time, you just open up your next photo, choose the action and click play :D

Hope that's useful!

Lou :)
