Photographers can be extremely pricey, so why not scatter some disposable cameras around instead and let your friends do their worst. You’ll probably end up with some much more original snaps anyway, and will see your big day from and entirely different perspective.

For the important wedding snaps (family ones, you and your new spouse etc) why not give one friend (whose quite nifty with a camera) the responsibility of taking them.

They’ll probably be chuffed to play such a big part in your wedding, and you could buy them a little thank you token for their troubles.

Its articles like these that make it harder for the decent pros out there

oh well its the couple who will be devastated when they have carp photos :)

I think you've missed the point :(

Isn't this advice for those on a really tight budget who CAN'T afford a new dress let alone a Pro Wedding tog?

In which case - the advice is fine - though I'd be tempted to work on the assumption that everyone (every woman anyway) attending will bring their own digi-compact, so I'd be asking them all to take as many shots as poss and pass them on as a 'Wedding gift'. This is then even cheaper than buying all those disposables, and the compacts will be better quality too :)

Fair point  i think your idea is better, get the P&S's at the weddings to do the work rather than a disposable

Disposables aren't a new idea and just asking everyone for a copy of their pics is a more modern approach and saves any potential embarrassment at boots when you get them developed!
Asking a friend to help out is ok but it'd be fairer in the article to say that the friend should not feel pressured to say yes - even if they are the only option.

:agree: You need the whole article to put it into context really :)

Nice over reaction, if you can't afford a photographer it doesn't matter how many decent ones there are. Some people don't have the luxury of being able to afford a photographer they are not exactly cheap!

Better option than disposables these days is cheap automatic film bodies off the bay, you can pick up some pretty nice examples for absolute peanuts all of which have better optics than a disposable!

The digital thing of getting everyone to give you there photo's is also a good option allthough a little more challenging to organise as they have to have some way to get the shots too you after the wedding and your also relying on them to be bothered which often people aren't these days!

Totally agree. After my wedding we tried to get some 'guest photos', and most people just don't get round to it. The others have trouble with computers! Photos sit on memory cards, or languish on hard drives. We were more than happy with the professional shots, they were awesome, just wanted to see what others had got.

I think the disposable camera option would have been better for that. Budget P&S camers can take some really bad looking shots.

All cameras can in the hands of the numpty or those not interested in photography :D

I still reckon a modern auto compact will outperform a fixed focus, fixed aperture and fixed shutter speed disposable though

At my wedding we had a professional, but we also had table top film cameras. This was 8 years and 2 weeks ago, so the digital revolution hadn't really taken off. The disposable cameras worked a treat and we got some fun shots from them, but they're more of a fun thing as an additional to the professional pics.

We got all the cameras back bar 1, that table got very rowdy and one person had to be taken home!

Nowadays, pooling snaps from peoples digital compacts would be a better route.

I think we had a few hundred pro shots to choose from, and then guests did forward there's on to us and left us with another 1000. 50 of which were from my own DLSR that I had given to my 13 year old brother.

Many are really nice too and more than adequate if we'd had a cheap/bargain wedding. :)

Ditto! I had all back bar 1. I wonder what happened to it.

The snaps from the disposable are a fun thing. We got some really interesting shots and it let us know what was going on at each table.

Dont let the pros see that comment.....

Why? they all know that what passes as a 'nice' photos doesn't make it a professional photo.

A few hundred of the photos are of the posed 'pro' shots due to one numpty who I can't stand following us around with his new bridge camera on auto.

The majority of of silly candid moments that showed how fun the day was. Lighting wasn't always great, composition wasn't always spot on but a damn site better than not having any :)

Even the pros remember that a photo is about capturing a memory, and even if you can't afford a pro that you shouldn't lose that memory :D

Everyone (admittedly not hundreds of people) I've known get married it's just been pictures from attendees cameras, mostly P&S. The idea of everyone having a pro is idealistic at best!

we had a disposable camera on each table when we got married last year.

we had a pro tog as well, his shots were amazing, from the disposables some were blurred or out of focus but thats not the point, they were fun silly snapshots which made us smile.

dont think pro's have anything to worry about!
