advice needed on carbon fiber tripods

The setup I use, whilst I use it for landscapes, would be ideally suited to macro.

I use Gitzo G2227 Explorer legs with a Manfrotto 405 geared head converted to Arca Swiss with a Hejnar conversion.

You can set the legs at any angle (not just fixed steps like most legs) and also the centre column at any angle so if you were photographing a bug or a flower or whatever you could get lined up in any plane.

The geared head gives you very accurate adjustments and the Arca Swiss conversion means you can switch from portrait to landscape without recomposing.

thx man, appreciate the info. could you give me some tips on macro photography? thx.

I also use a G2227 for macro....the perfect implement IMHO.

I have a vanguard 284ct that was bought recently. It's my first proper tripod and from the limited use it's had so far I'm very happy with it. The centre column is multi angle and can pivot then swing up and down easily to help with positioning.
