Hi All,
I'm a web designer for a company in the UK that supplies industrial flowmeters. I need to produce some product animations for display on the website, but can't find product shots from suppliers that are of sufficient quality or taken at the right angles, so have decided to do the photography myself.
I have a Nikon D70 camera, a good tripod and a few decent lenses that will be suitable, but lighting is a problem. The photos will be taken in our workshop and the lighting consists of strip lights on the ceiling and natural light from a roller shutter door. I've experimented with this lighting setup and the results weren't great.
I need control of the lighting in the workshop and have convinced the boss to shell out for some cheap studio equipment. I've estimated that I'll be spending about £500 for a simple second hand setup, but could do with some advice on exactly what I'll need. I'm not a total beginner in this field as I did a photography evening course at college about 5 years ago which included some studio work, but I've forgotten the majority of what I've learned through lack of practice.
So any advice on equipment choices would be appreciated. The products I'll be photographing vary in size, but the largest is only about the size of an office chair. I'm guessing a couple of flash heads with built in power, a plain backdrop, softbox and umbrella?
Any advice on brands, offers, alternative equipment, or anything else for that matter would be greatly appreciated.
Many Thanks,
Chris
