im having a dilema....looking at upgrading to a 50d and im trying to decide wether to get it with a 17-85 is kit lens.

or to get the new 15-85is. if i get the 17-85 am i going to be dissapointed
 
I liked the 17-85 IS but got quite annoyed with it after only a few months.
it gets slated in most reviews. the wide angle verticals drove me crazy!

17-55 IS would be a great move, Not sure how great the 15-85 is. a step forward from the 17-85 but I'm not sure by how much.
if budget is an issue the tamron 17-50 is nice. or 28-135 IS if range i more important to you than wide

I wouldn't put a 18-55 IS (even thought it's well received) on a 50D as I think the camera deserves more personally

I like the look of the 17-55 it's just a bit expensive. Form what I read the new 15-85 is just a step behind the 17-55.

I like the sound of the tamron, but the range of the 15-85 is really tempting
 
Why not see if a local camera shop has the 17-85 and newer 15-85 in and you could try them side by side, seeing what, if any differences are there.
